Hoboken Reporter, March 28, 2004 Open letter to Hoboken Sept. 11 Memorial Fund CommitteeDear Editor: Please don't mess up Pier A Park with obtrusive structures in the name of a 9/11 memorial. The mutilated skyline as viewed now from Pier A is the best reminder of that atrocity. Of the four finalist designs shown in the March 7 Hoboken Reporter, that climbing gym and at least some of the three others (hard to envision them all as they weren't shown in context) would just obscure or clutter up that view. Why not just dedicate the exiting fountain, which gets lots of use in summer and is placed appropriately at the western (landward) end of the pier? If you want to name the victims, put a plaque or some such device. That sort of memorial was deemed good enough for the veterans and casualties of Vietnam and both World Wars.
